Yes, I have seen “forking” used in The Good Place! LOL!
And while part of the reason for using “Forking” is because it’s probably not the best idea to use an actual curse word in a business name, it’s not the only reason! But it does speak to how hard change is for us humans… It's FORKING HARD! And we can get really FORKING frustrated when we know we want to make changes but find ourselves unable to stick to them. It’s not for lack of trying that’s for sure! Most of us attempt 4-5 diets each year and still haven't found a way to maintain a body weight that feels right for us. We struggle with what and how to eat, how to keep a fitness plan going long-term or practice mindfulness, meditation and stress reduction routines as daily habits that support us through all the ups and downs of our lives.
I was FORKING sick of watching myself binge each night to the point of searing stomach pain, unable to get off the sofa, feeling remorse and regret, and then waking up the next morning ready to start fresh only to watch myself do it all over again. That feeling drove me to finally be willing to try what felt really really hard to do...
We start with the FORKS.
Often we are overwhelmed by all the changes we wish we could make. Starting with the food can lead to a ripple effect in the rest of our lives. When we watch ourselves finally succeed in building a peaceful relationship with the food on our plates, we know we can succeed in other places too. We build confidence, and the effects of changing our food can free our brains to handle other areas of our lives as well. The food/body weight obsession fog lifts and we have a clarity of thinking that opens doors to live more deeply and purposefully.
We find the FORKS in the road.
And then there are forks in the road: paths we choose, paths we follow because “everyone is going that way,” or paths we forge. Sometimes we
have to try multiple paths and then work our way back to the beginning to try something new. And through all this journey we are building new
pathways in our brains… new habits and letting the old ones dry up. Forks in the road… it’s really only one small step from one to the other.
The FORKS we use to grow our food.
For many of us, in this modern world it’s very easy to get disconnected from the sources of the food on our plates. Understanding where our food comes from connects us to things larger than ourselves, fosters gratitude and appreciation, and reminds us that food is indeed nourishment and that the source of that nourishment matters to our bodies. We honor the garden FORKS!
"Real Forking Change means SUSTAINABLE change that starts with the relationship to myself and my body. It works at the root level and doesn't just treat the symptoms so it can truly be long-lasting." - Alisa
